Reducing downtime with our fast plant movement and installation service
Stratford Upon Avon is known all over the world as the birthplace of Shakespeare. But it’s also the home of one of our clients: Yelo Enterprises.
Did you know that Shakespeare came from a farming background? His grandparents farmed the Warwickshire landscape and references to farming litter his work. How apt for Yelo to be based in Stratford?
Who is Yelo Enterprises?
Yelo Enterprises is aptly named after the beautiful yellow flower of the rapeseed plant. They specialise in processing exclusively UK-grown rapeseed, into top-quality vegetable oil and animal feed.
Yelo prides itself on keeping things as simple as possible to preserve the natural goodness found in rapeseed oil. They use mechanical pressing to extract the oil and preserve the micronutrients and proteins found within the plant.
that involved removing/replacing a 5-tonne gearbox from the housing along with a tricky shaft and worm replacement.
We conducted an initial site survey and liaised with roofing and scaffold contractors as the only access to remove the equipment would be through the roof with a section removed. Initially advising the client this would be a 3-day contract we managed to pull out all the stops and complete in less than 2 with the process plant back up and running making for a very happy client!
The Problem
Here at Fortis Heavy Lift Group, we have worked with a number of processing plants over the years and were delighted to add Yelo Enterprises to that list.
In this instance, we were on hand to assist with a breakdown which involved removing and replacing a 5-tonne gearbox from the machinery housing, along with a ticky shaft and worm replacement.
Just to put that into perspective, that’s as much as a medium-sized tractor weighs, and about the same as your average bull elephant!
Imagine having to change the gearbox on your car…if said gearbox was the size of an elephant!
Our Solution
Our initial site survey revealed that the only access to remove and replace the gearbox was through the roof with a section removed. This meant engaging the services of a scaffolding specialist and liaising closely with them and the client to ensure a smooth job and minimum disruption to Yelo Enterprise’s production line.
We partnered with a scaffolding company to ensure we had proper access and then proceeded with our plant movement and installation service. The old gearbox was removed through the roof, and a new one was lowered into place and installed.
The Result:
Our client trusted us to get this job completed in three days (as per our initial assessment).
However, by pulling out all the stops for this small and very valuable business, we managed to complete the job and have the plant back up and running in less than two days.
Making for a very happy customer and a job definitely well done.
