Precast Installations – Winvic – Birmingham City Centre

Sometimes construction projects resemble a cross between a lego project and a giant game of tetris, although admittedly with bigger bricks! 

Moving precast pieces into place is something we at Fortis Heavy Lift Group do all the time via our contract lifting services.

In this case, we were charged with finishing off the lift and shift of precast concrete cladding in Birmingham city centre for one of our clients, Winvic Construction.

The Client

 

Established in 2001, Winvic Construction is a leading multidisciplinary contractor with an exceptional reputation across numerous sectors and a passion for integrating the latest technologies and sustainability. The problem

 

When Winvic got in touch, the onsite tower crane had already been dismantled and this part of the project was a suspended car pack with extremely tight access all round, in the middle of the UK’s second largest and busiest city. 

 

The Solution 

 

Due to the very limited  access – not to mention  working on a suspended car park – we opted to use a Liebherr 1045 City crane for this contract lift service. City cranes are the most manoeuvrable type of mobile cranes, featuring a short chassis and independent steering on each axle. Their slanted boom design reduces their footprint, making them perfect for inner-city projects or sites with limited space. These cranes are equipped with various boom lengths and offer different rigger spreads to suit diverse lifting needs. This crane was man enough to complete the lifts required from the designated rig area, but also just able to fit under the roller shutter for access.

 

The lift was completed safely and on time, and we look forward to a long and fruitful partnership!

The Fortis guys were extremely professional they arriving on site early so that all works could be done in the allotted time.
